Program note
This piece is inspired by the dancing body. The name- GaGa, is taken from the language of movement created by the choreographer Ohad Naharin.
As in the beginning of GaGa practice- the starting point of the movement described in the piece is the floating of a physical body within liquid. This is a central element of the piece, and brings focus both on this physical body, as well as on the liquid around it. This liquid can become thick or diluted-quite suddenly or gradually. Another element present in the piece is that of the force of gravity. Changes occur frequently in the intensity of the power of gravity, creating such phenomena as precipitation within, or sudden currents of energy.
The technical means applied in order to describe these physical states are the following: floating is characterized by a slow descent, with glissando and chromaticism. The instrumentation, dynamics, and speed of the melodic descent are thus the indicators of the density of the liquid. Gravity on the other hand is characterized via sudden, dense phrases, which aggregate momentarily the performers. These phrases come with a dynamic swell which shines through the overall texture.
As the piece unravels- the physical body described by the music enters phases of fast, rhythmic movement within the basic state of floating.
